The standard dosing on the box is straightforward for individual birds or small groups with their own water dish. For keepers with larger flocks drinking from a single communal reservoir, Tom;'s method below is a simple add-on to the boxed instructions, showing how to apply that same dosing to a shared water system.
Q: Where should the drops go - the drinker tray or the water reservoir?
A: The reservoir, not the tray. Adding the product to the main water reservoir, rather than the open tray birds drink from directly, keeps administration clear and consistent, particularly for larger poultry keepers.
Q: What's the best way to measure and mix the drops before adding them to the reservoir?
A: Use a glass with 8oz of water. Add the drops to the glass, stir well to make sure they're fully mixed through, and then pour the mixture into the water reservoir using a funnel. Then mix the dosed water in the reservoir thoroughly. This ensures the product is evenly distributed through the water rather than concentrated in one spot.
Q: How are larger flocks of adult birds drinking from bigger troughs dosed?
A: This depends a little on the size of your birds and how much they're drinking day to day. The baseline is to mix 5 to 10 drops into about a pint of water, stirring well. This mix can then be added directly to the trough or diluted further into a larger 5 to 10 gallon container (stirring again at this step) before dividing it between multiple troughs around the farm as needed. Once the medicated water is added to the final drinking water, it should be thoroughly mixed once again.
In hot weather especially, check the drinker/trough regularly. Faster-drinking birds can empty it before the rest of the flock gets a turn, so refilling promptly is just as important as the drop count.
Q: Does the dose need to go up for a much bigger trough?
A: No. Homeopathic remedies don't work on a strict drops-per-gallon ratio the way a conventional medicine would, so the drop count doesn't need to scale up with trough size. My experience is that thorough stirring at each step matters more than precisely matching the dilution to the volume of water.
